National Immunization Awareness Week (NIAW) April 24-30

March 2021

NIAW is an annual event that coincides with Vaccination Week in the Americas and World Immunization Week. The Pan American Health Organization and its partners are celebrating the 19th annual Vaccination Week in the Americas with the theme “Vaccines bring us closer. #GetVax.”

NIAW aims to increase public awareness about the importance of immunization as well as the success and impact immunization has had in protecting and saving lives. Immunization is one of the most important accomplishments in public health. Over the past 50 years, immunization has led to the elimination, containment and control of diseases that were once very common in Canada and still exist around the world. Immunization saves millions of lives around the world every year. NIAW promotes the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.

This year, the focus of the campaign is building trust and confidence in the safety and efficacy of vaccines, promoting access to vaccination during the COVID-19 Pandemic and supporting the introduction of COVID-19 vaccines around the world.

Trust. Protect. #VaccinesWork
